We started with introductions all round for some of the new people to meet and greet. Helgi announced he's started work at Ölvisholt, currently 100% but expecting to be 50% in the future. Siggi spoke about upcoming events and the calendar, Menningarnótt, A tour to Steðji in late September (before the competition) to taste their upcoming Oktoberfest, and of course, the Steðji competition itself. We had some general discussions about events and ideas for events, (home brew tours with bands during airwaves!) and particularly, making a better effort to get a group to Hólar next year.
Karl spoke about CO2 for homebrewers, mostly targetting kegs, common myths, common problems, and why there's so many myths. Got some nice questions, hopefully it was useful. Links I mentioned:
- http://www.draughtquality.org/ Click on "get manual" in the top. Targets (clueless) retailers, but _lots_ of very good information there. Mostly US based, but the principles are all the same.
- http://www.brewboard.com/index.php?showtopic=7848 The epic thread on home capture, compression and use of CO2 from fermentation. Read it all, it's worth it to see the naysayers eat their hats.
- http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/carbonation/ A rather alternative method, far too much work for my taste, but you can see how it's done.
Tastings:
karlp: Wheat+WB06
karlp: APA with vienna and Green Bullet
helgibelgi: "bad" wheat (his words)
sigurdur: "some kind of APA" with melanoidan
Siggi/æpíei: Cream Ale (fluffy!)
Daniel: weisenbock, w/ 3068, 8.5%
tastings are subjective, so this is mostly just a list of who brought what.
