Got the false bottom from Hrafnkell, but he didn't have any bolts around. Took a bit of dicking around, I mis-measured, and then had to dis-assemble and _rotate_ the element so it sat a little lower. Then a minor problem with the lock nut, but the angle grinder fixed that. Used 5x60mm stainless bolts, with "split ró", then "hettu ró" to make little feet, and give it the last few mm needed. Used some thick copper wire to make pull tabs for getting it out again. Seems ok. Of course, after removing the element to rotate it, it then started leaking again. Turns out, "lock nut|pot wall | silicon o-ring | element steel head" works just fine, and just hand tightened. "lock nut| pot wall | silicon o-ring | plastic tengibox | element steel head" only works the first time, when you get it realllly tight, but it then won't seal if you have to do it again. Oh well. Not quite as splashproof as before, but at least it's not leaking.

How far away from the element does the false bottom need to be so that there wont be a spot in the mash that gets a lot hotter - is that generally not a problem?

No idea :) It's a low density element, so hoping for no _extra_ problem vs not having the false bottom.

Well, if it fails somehow, we can just call it "Kalli's taste - version 2" ;)
